A few months ago I red and reviewed On The Surface – Book one in Kate Willoughby’s new hockey trilogy about the San Diego Barracuda’s and I found that story fresh and real, I was hooked. So when I saw book two, Across the Line, on Netgalley? I quickly requested and anxiously waited! I was sure this book would be just as good, and I was definitely right!

Becca and Calder meet on the plane, but soon realize they’d known each other in grade school. From there, their relationship is real in it’s progression. It’s insta-lust, but definitely not insta-love, and they both know it can never work! I love realistic expectations  in romance. But more than that? I love Calder. Becca was great, don’t get me wrong, she’s a fantastic leading lady. But Calder? He has my heart. He’s the “2nd best” sibling, trying hard to fill his brothers shoes. And I just adore him.

It’s no secret that I love secondary characters, and this book works well for that! Calder’s brother, Hart, plays an excellent role in this one! As does Alex, his friend and teammate. My only complaint? Our check in with Erin and Tim was minor, I felt like that was an afterthought, like they were just thrown in because they ‘had’ to be.  Erin befriends Becca, but we never really see her – we just hear that she was involved. I’d love a few good conversations between these two!

Kate Willoughby’s writing is fantastic, her story is fast paced, fun and throws in a few laughs. I find myself not wanting the story to end, and then anxiously awaiting the next in this fantastic series! If you’re a fan of Toni Aleo, Catheriny Gayle or Jami Davenport? Then I’m sure you’ll love Kate Willoughby’s fun hockey romance!
