Six years ago, Dewayne Falco's life changed. He lost someone he never expected to lose. Resigned to punish himself for something he felt he could have prevented, he goes through life without getting too close to anyone.
What he didn't expect was for the girl across the street to move back home and remind him of what they both lost: Dewayne's younger brother Dustin. However, when a miniature version of Dustin opens the door to greet him, Dewayne realizes he might not have lost everything after all.
Sienna Roy loved Dustin Falco most of her life. He was the boy next door, the high school basketball star and her best friend. But when his life was cut short, she realized he left a part of himself behind.
Now, she's back in Sea Breeze, thankful to have a home for her and Dustin's son, but not sure if she can ever forgive the people across the street who abandoned her when she needed them the most — The Falcos.
Betrayal, lies, and forbidden attraction might end Dewayne and Sienna's story before it's even begun.
I have been devouring Abbi Glines books lately – most specifically her Sea Breeze series (I reviewed the first 4 books on For Love and Books, before Two Moms Reading!) And the 8th installment, Dewayne and Sienna’s story? Is no different. I absolutely adored this book, although I found it bittersweet as this series is coming to an end.
Dewayne has been around Sea Breeze since the beginning, but he was never one of those characters that I thought much about. I didn’t now his story, just that he hung around with the guys at Live Bay, so I can’t say I had strong feelings one way or the other about his story. But I have to admit, as soon as Sienna started out the story? I had tears in the first two chapters! I knew this book would have a lasting impression on me.
Now, I have to admit. I read reviews. I try to avoid that – I don’t want my opinion changed by what other people thought. But I did it, and I was disappointed. So many people didn’t have great things to say about the 8th book, but I tried hard to not let that influence me. And luckily? It didn’t. No, I don’t think Hold on Tight was the best book in the series. But? I loved it none the less!
As far as story progression goes, I have to admit that I nearly forgot I was immersed in a Sea Breeze novel. We only got small glimpses of our beloved characters – unlike past books, where they played significant roles. But that’s ok, because I was so caught up in Dewayne and Sienna, and their backstory! (I love characters with a backstory, and boy oh boy do they have one!! Dewayne has loved Sienna since they were kids, he just can’t admit it to himself! And they have so much tragedy between them, i just love it!)
As with all Abbi Glines books, I listened to this one on audio, and I adore Sebastian York and Shayna Thibodeaux! To me, they are a big part of the experience of Sea Breeze! They do a phenomenal job of keeping the character voices consistent throughout the series, and you always know who they are! I just can’t gush enough about how much I love these narrators!
If you’re a fan of the contemporary New Adult Genre? You will love the Sea Breeze books! But I definitely recommend starting at the beginning with Breathe!
