Fame has a price and Trystan doesn't want to pay it. Everything he worked so hard to hide is about to be revealed. Nothing he can do will stop it. Within a few short hours everyone will know about his father and the sordid details of his past. Brie is by his side, sputtering things that she shouldn't know. Did Mari stab him in the back? After everything they've been through, he can't believe it, but where is she?
There are four words Trystan's father said that haunt him—four words that he ignored—never fall in love.
I’m probably going to get a lot of flack from H.M. Ward fans, but I found the conclusion to the Trystan Scott serial to be slightly disappointing. Almost all of it was completely predictable. And I didn’t feel like it really tied things up. This may be a SPOILER, but I basically felt like the book just covered the Day Jones storyline and not much else. As I sit here thinking about it, there were a lot of big conflicts brought up in this book that weren’t really addressed. I was waiting for some huge confrontations and/or fight scenes, and they didn’t come. Honestly, it kind of felt like it just ended. I don’t know; it was weird.
Overall, I don’t regret reading this series (serial?) because there’s more to come, but it just wasn’t what I’ve come to expect from H.M. Ward’s writing. I guess that’s what happens when you read out of published order. These were her earlier books, and they definitely aren’t as good as the others that I’ve read so far.
