Series: Fool's Gold #17
Published by Harlequin Genres: Contemporary
New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery creates the small-town destination for romance in charming Fool's Gold, California—where a loner cowboy finds the one woman who can capture his heart...
After Phoebe Kitzke's kind heart gets her suspended from her job in LA, she swears off doing favors—until her best friend begs for help on the family ranch in Fool's Gold. Unfortunately, sexy cowboy Zane Nicholson isn't exactly thrilled by the city girl's arrival.
Thanks to his brother's latest scheme, Zane has been roped into taking tourists on a cattle drive. What Phoebe knows about ranching wouldn't fill his hat, but her laughter is so captivating that even his animals fall for her. One slip of his legendary control leads to a passionate kiss, but she's exactly the kind of woman a single-minded loner needs to avoid.
In his arms, Phoebe discovers she's a country girl at heart. Yet no matter how much the small town feels like home, she can't stay unless Zane loves her, too…but is this cowboy interested in forever?
It’s no secret the Fool’s Gold is my favorite contemporary romance series EVER. (It was even a tweet from Susan Mallery that introduced me to Book Blogging way back in July of 2011 when Only Mine released! (And it was my first ever book review!) So 13 (Fool’s Gold) books later, here we are!
I have to be completely honest. At first, I was really sad that this book didn’t actually happen in Fool’s Gold. It’s on a ranch, just outside of town. And really, the only characters from town that we know and love are Eddie and Gladys. At least for most of the book… (Sure, there’s passing mention of other characters – but no one else… until our beloved Mayor shows up!!)
But the love story between Zane and Phoebe? HOLY WOW!!!!! The first kiss? Melted my Kindle. I had to be mopped up from a puddle on the floor with how hot the chemistry was!! And I loved the idea behind them. Two lost souls, looking for somewhere to fit. (Even if they don’t realize that’s what they’re doing!)
I may go as far to say that this was my favorite Fool’s Gold book ever. The setting was different, but the same sweet romance that is trademarked to this town! I loved every single page of this book.
