When the gloves come off, she's worth the penalty...Physical therapist Annie Davidson is great at her job but unlucky when it comes to love. She's just out of a bad relationship. A really bad relationship. All she can do is focus on work...that is until she runs into professional hockey player Alec O'Meara. She's a touch insecure and doesn't understand why he's interested in her.Despite being one of the biggest players on the team, right wing Alec O'Meara prefers finesse over force. After the tragic death of his wife, he likes to keep things loose on and off the ice. But the red-headed Annie challenges his beliefs and makes him think about taking their relationship to the net. The passion and fun they share is addicting and makes them long for more. But her insecurities that she's not good enough, and his anxiety over a long-term commitment will keep them apart, unless they can find a way to break through the defenses they've built around their hearts.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Hockey Romance! (It’s my not-so-secret guilty pleasure!) And so when I read the description for Simmering Ice on Netgalley? I immediately requested the book! (Unfortunately, my life got crazy and it wasn’t until just recently that I had a chance to read it!)

Annie and Alec have a great story! I love them both individually, and together. I love that they are helping each other overcome obstacles, just like a “real” relationship does! (Especially in Alec’s case, where he is a widower who wasn’t going to move on.) They have a fun relationship at first, but it quickly takes a turn to the serious as they are forced to deal with issues. (And it definitely keeps you turning the pages!)

But, yes – sadly? There is a but! There was an aspect of insta-love in this one. And I just don’t dig insta-love. (Luckily? As the story went on, it definitely redeemed itself! So if you’re like me, you just have to grit your teeth through a small bit!) My other (small) complaint is Annie’s family. I felt like Annie’s mom needed to be pulled down a few blocks, and no one was willing to do it.

If you’re a fan of sports romance? Simmering Ice is definitely a great place to start! I can’t wait to grab the first book in this series, as I didn’t realize it was number 2!

I'm a homeschooling hockey mom from southern Colorado! I spend my free time blogging and reading (when I'm not at the ice arena or hiking in the Rockies!) and I have a crazy addiction to water bottles!
